Several news articles and reports have kept Kelly Osbourne on the minds of the public for the past several months. The controversial exit of her mother from a Talk Show, the diagnosis of her father with Parkinson’s disease –both incidents left a massive impact on the life of Osbourne. Furthermore, she has been experienced lots of mental stress and frustration after breaking up with her one-year-long boyfriend. All these events forced Osbourne to enter the world of addiction.
Kelly Osbourne is the beloved daughter of Ozzy – the Godfather of Metal, and a famous television personality, Sharon. Ozzy gained huge popularity around the world in the 1970s when he established himself as a lead singer in Black Sabbath – an English heavy metal band. Kelly was just 13 years old when she was given a prescription tonic Vicodin for the treatment of pain associated with tonsils. However, in the year 2009, in an interview, she recalled that she felt more likable and confident with that painkiller. After this, she even started using many other prescription drugs such as Valium, Klonopin, and Xanax to deal with the feelings of depression and anxiety.
In her interview, Osbourne reported that she had self-medicated herself with any substance she got access to. Those prescription drugs she has used to experience temporary relief from the stress of being in the media and handling the comments of the public. Her parents caught her with some harmful prescription drugs when she was just 19 years old, and she was sent to rehab for the first time in Malibu. But as she felt very uncomfortable during the treatment, it couldn’t provide successful results. She returned to rehab again after around one year before shifting to London, and at that time, she had some good experiences and improvements at rehab.
In the year 2008, Kelly shifted to LA to start another reality show; however, the hectic work routines took her again into the world of addiction. Over time, she observed that drugs were difficult to access in LA. Once, she even threw herself down through stairs to get a prescription. Due to these consequences, her family and friends asked her to seek proper treatment for addiction. She joined a 30 days treatment program where she learned various techniques to deal with stress and anxiety. Osbourne also took part in some family therapy programs. However, she could not stop substance use even after this treatment and ultimately landed up in a mental hospital. After spending the longest time in a sober living facility since the year 2017, Osbourne recently shared her experience about addiction and the journey to sobriety.
Studies define relapse as an essential part of recovery from addiction. It is observed that almost 40 to 60% of patients relapse during addiction treatment, especially during the first year of therapy. There is no doubt to say that addiction is a chronic disease, and yet there are some effective treatments. Setbacks are most often a part of the recovery process.
