Classic Case of Denial in Drug Addiction

Today I would like to outline a classic case of denial in addiction that is happening in the same county in which I live. A year ago former county supervisor and assessor Bill Postmus was arrested on felony drug possession charges.

Besides this Mr. Postmus has been in the news for charges of conspiracy, bribery, embezzlement and grand theft. According to this article, “Upon showing up at court Friday the sheriff’s deputy said that Postmus was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of methamphetamines. He was given a sobriety test, which he apparently failed.”

Mr. Postmus has already admitted that he has had a history of drug use. But, what he denies is that his drug use has had any effect on his abilities to do his job. So, let’s recount the effects so far on Mr. Postmus and his career.

He has lost his job and is presently in jail. He is charged with felony possession of narcotics, conspiracy, bribery, embezzlement and grand theft. He showed up to court this past week under the influence, failing the sobriety test. This is an unfortunate and classic case of denial that Mr. Postmus will need to move through in order to successfully treat his drug addiction issues.

  1. So true. A very important part when going through drug rehab, is recognizing that there is a problem. When you can’t even recognize that, which in this article Mr. Postmus doesn’t, how can you move forward in going about treatment?
