Many people think of drug and alcohol rehab as a place to get away from ordinary life, regroup and get yourself together before you face the world again. And, for most people this is their experience.
But, in Mexico with the drug cartels escalating their violence, not even rehab clinics are safe. This week 19 people were killed at a drug rehab clinic in the northern state of Chihuahua.
Apparently this was payback from one gang to another who seized the opportunity to shoot and kill unarmed people who were trying to get off drugs and away from the cartel lifestyle. Even though this was a bloody incident it is not isolated and previous and similar attacks at different rehab centers in Mexico have been reported.

What a chilling story. At the treatment center where I work we are always wary about the potential for violence there, but this is a level of violence that we have never even considered. This story reminds me of how much I have to be grateful for.
